Install the additional applications. If you are uncomfortable with the command line terminal, you should create a live Ubuntu Desktop DVD or USB. Upgrade the system by installing latest packages, apply the following commands, Sudo su apt-get update apt-get upgrade.
Select the option Try Ubuntu without installing from the boot menu when you start up the live CD, instead of the Install Ubuntu option. If I have to use the terminal to do this please be specific and go step by step because I'm completely ignorant when it comes to Linux and this is really all I need to use it for. Sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver. Running the Ubuntu Desktop installer from your hard drive requires an extra partition. Debootstrap does not require a DVD, USB, Ubuntu Desktop ISO, or an extra installer partition. Please note that Cubic will not create a live cd of your system.

Debootstrap installs Ubuntu directly, without using the guiding Ubuntu Desktop installer. But if you ever need to enter a command after you've already selected Install Ubuntu instead of Try Ubuntu without installing, then you can run it in a virtual console.
